Preparation

  1. Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Set aside.
  2. Remove the apple slices from the pie filling can (reserve the remaining filling for another use). Arrange the slices in a shingled pattern in 4 separate rectangular rows on the prepared baking sheet (5–6 slices per row).
  3. Roll out the pie crusts on a lightly floured work surface. Using a sharp knife or pizza cutter, cut the dough evenly into 4 rectangles (about 4x6 inches each), each large enough to cover an apple row. Place 1 dough rectangle on top of each apple row, pressing the dough edges gently onto the parchment paper to cover the apples.
  4. Whisk together the egg and water in a small bowl. Brush the mixture over the dough mounds, then sprinkle evenly with the turbinado sugar.
  5. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until the crust is puffed and golden brown. Remove from the oven, and carefully flip each tart onto a plate so the apples are on top.
  6. Serve warm with a drizzle of caramel sauce, a pinch of flaky sea salt, and vanilla ice cream.
  7. Enjoy!
