Preparation
- Place a silicone candy mold (any shape) on a large baking sheet. Alternatively, if you don’t have molds, fill a shallow baking sheet with cornstarch. Set aside.
- Stir together the honey, lemon juice, ginger, turmeric, and black pepper in a small, heavy-bottomed saucepan. Place a candy thermometer in the saucepan. Cook the mixture over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, until the mixture reaches 300°F (hard-crack stage), about 15 minutes. Watch closely to avoid scorching.
- Immediately remove the pan from heat. Working quickly, spoon the hot mixture into the candy molds. Alternatively, if you’re not using molds, press the back of a tablespoon into the cornstarch in the baking sheet to create small wells. Spoon the hot mixture into each indentation to form drops. Let them set completely before dusting off any excess cornstarch.
- Let the cough drops cool at room temperature until hardened, about 30 minutes.
- Dust the hardened drops with the powdered sugar or cornstarch to prevent sticking. Store individually wrapped in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 months.
- Enjoy!
