My Small Kitchen Finally Feels Less Cluttered Thanks To This Slim $25 Appliance

Counter space is valuable real estate — you’re not going to give it up for just anything. While toasters are a frequently used kitchen item, it can be frustrating to have the bulky appliance taking up so much space, especially when its function is so basic.

1. It’s slim and efficient.

Most toasters are wide and clunky, resembling a car part. But the Bella toaster is slim and compact, fitting perfectly in my small, New York City kitchen. With a mere 3.5-inch profile, it looks like I’ve propped a book onto my counter rather than added a kitchen appliance. I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing any space at all.

While you may be thinking, “What’s the catch?” there really isn’t one. My bread has no problem fitting inside the toaster, and I get an even cook all around. The machine toasts quickly, but it’s not so hot inside that things will easily burn. It even comes with a few other features that make it even more convenient to use. Given how effectively the Bella works at its size, other toasters now seem annoyingly and unnecessarily big to me. 

2. It can fit large slices of bread.

There’s no division inside this two-slice toaster, just one long slit. So while many toasters can’t accommodate larger slices of bread, the Bella can comfortably fit either two slices of sandwich bread or one large piece of bread like sourdough. I’ve even been able to toast two pieces of sourdough at a time, just with the ends of the bread slightly overlapping inside. 

3. Plus, it doesn't just toast bread.

It's also fits waffles, bagels, and more. 

4. The dial makes toasting times clear.

The small dial at the bottom of the toaster is divided into minutes, making it easy to set and understand. Some past toasters I use have such a vague dial that I’d end up burning the toast. If I can avoid having to scrape off black bits of burnt bread into my sink, I’m happy. 

5. There’s a dedicated button for ejecting toast.

Let’s say I overestimate how long my bread needs to toast and need to take it out early. Well, there’s a button for that, which has unexpectedly become my favorite feature. 

With past toasters, pulling the lever to force the toast out has seemed like something the toaster wasn’t designed to do. I’d typically be met with resistance followed by a violent pop-up. There could even be a small degree of panic about doing it in time. No more, though! I simply press the button, and the toast quickly ejects for me to grab. 

6. The crumb catcher makes clean up easy.

I’ve never had a toaster with a crumb catcher before, so this feature is a treat for me. The tray is easy to remove and put back, making it easier to remove the pesky crumbs at the bottom of the toaster.
